5.4 Publishing Model Assumptions

Self-Publishing Calculation Methodology

All royalty and profit estimates displayed by BeyondBSR are calculated using Amazon Kindle Direct Publishing (KDP) self-publishing formulas, regardless of how the book was actually published.

Traditional Publisher Books

For books published by traditional publishers (including major publishing houses, small presses, and hybrid publishers), our estimates represent what a self-publisher would potentially earn if they published a similar book with the same specifications (page count, format, price, and dimensions) through KDP. These estimates:

Do NOT reflect the actual profits, margins, or royalties of the original publisher
Do NOT account for private commercial agreements between publishers and Amazon, which are confidential and vary by publisher
Do NOT represent author royalties under traditional publishing contracts, which typically differ significantly from self-publishing royalty structures

Intended Use

This calculation methodology is designed to help self-publishers assess market opportunities by understanding the potential earnings of publishing a book in a given niche or category. It is not designed to analyze the actual financial performance of traditionally published titles.

6. Acceptable Use

When using the Service, you agree NOT to:

Automated Access: Use bots, scrapers, or automated tools to access the Service without our express written permission
Competitive Products: Use data obtained from the Service to build or improve a competing product or service
Account Sharing: Share your account credentials with others or allow multiple people to use a single account
